Tuning Fireside and Ceilidh Pipes
Use of a meter to test for correct Pitch...
Please note
when using a
meter, use a
Chromatic
tuner. We
recommend
the Korg OT
12. It is
adjustable
from 430 hz
to 499 hz
and can be
adjusted for
all your
smallpipe
needs.
Caution,
never
test
the chanter
by mouth.
The chanter
must be
tested in
the bag.
Blowing by
mouth will
give you
incorrect
results due
to
differences
in air
pressure.
It is not
recommended
that you set
your chanter
balance
using a
meter. Set
High A to
Low A, then
use the
drones to
tell you the
rest of the
chanter
balance. If
the drones
warble the
individual
note is
either sharp
or flat.
All values
are based on
A= 440 hz.
These
settings are
meant are
intended as
a guide
only.
